Introduction to Ayurveda- Understanding the Doshas: (75 minutes)
Join me for an exploration to Ayurveda. Ayurveda is a 5000-6000 years old science that is widely acknowledged to be the world’s oldest existing health care system rooted in the ancient Vedic culture of India.
Ayurvedic medicine recognizes the uniqueness of every individual taking into account psychological, emotional and physical conditions and tendencies. One size does not fit all!
In this “Introduction to Ayurveda” workshop, we will talk about the three bio-energetic forces or doshas that govern the outer universe and our inner universe. Common energies existing both in nature and the human body are forces known as: Vata (wind), Pitta (fire), Kapha (earth). With the understanding of the dynamic relationship between our bodies and the environment, we increase our self-awareness, and become better equipped to realize our full human potential. It teaches that health is maintained by the balance of three subtle energies or forces called Doshas, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The purpose of Ayurveda is to bring these forces into harmony so that they promote physical, emotional well being. Such an approach has proven effective over the centuries as many of Ayurveda’s healing regimens have been adopted all over the world. Ayurveda utilizes diet modification, herbal remedies and physical therapies to achieve or maintain optimal health.
The topic will be covered as an open discussion in format and I encourage participants to ask their questions as we go in order to keep the conversation lively and dynamic.
